Nottingham Forest dealt a severe blow to Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes with a 3-0 victory at Anfield on Saturday. The defeat marks Liverpool’s sixth loss in their last seven league matches, leaving the reigning champions eight points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Forest took the lead in the 33rd minute when Brazilian defender Murillo scored from a corner. Nicolo Savona doubled the advantage early in the second half, and Morgan Gibbs-White sealed the win 12 minutes from time after following up Alisson’s save from Omari Hutchinson.
The loss marks the second consecutive season Forest have beaten Liverpool at Anfield. Overall, Liverpool have now lost eight of their last 11 matches across all competitions, including six of their last seven league games. It is also the first time since 1965 that Liverpool have suffered back-to-back league defeats by a three-goal margin.
Manager Jürgen Klopp acknowledged that the team is still grappling with the emotional impact of Diogo Jota’s tragic death in Spain in July. On the pitch, Liverpool were again uninspired, producing a lacklustre performance that leaves them in 11th place.
Liverpool’s struggles come despite a summer spending spree exceeding £400 million ($523 million). Swedish striker Alexander Isak, making his fourth league start since his record-breaking move from Newcastle, was substituted in the second half and is still seeking his first Premier League goal for the Reds.
