Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has been recognised as the top ball-winner in defensive areas across Europe’s top five leagues, according to WhoScored statistics.
The 28-year-old full-back has been a standout for Forest this season, logging over 2,500 minutes in all competitions and delivering his most impressive campaign at the highest level.
“Aina has regained possession in defensive areas 13 times more than any other player, placing him at the top across the continent,” Forest stated in a report on Tuesday.
His defensive excellence has been crucial to Forest’s solid backline, playing a key role in goalkeeper Matz Sels’ 12 Premier League clean sheets—the most in the division this season and the joint-highest of Aina’s career.
Aina has also been a major disruptor in opposition attacks, leading the Forest squad with 30 interceptions in the 2024/25 season, ranking joint-26th in the Premier League.
His ability to win duels and halt opponents was evident in Forest’s recent 1-0 win over Manchester City, where his decisive tackle on Omar Marmoush led to the game-winning goal.
Facing City’s Jérémy Doku, Aina showcased his defensive strength, winning four ground duels, making three clearances—including two-headed clearances—and recovering possession four times.
