Victor Osimhen is aiming to wrap up a sensational domestic double with Galatasaray by clinching the Turkish Super Lig title today, just days after their emphatic Turkish Cup triumph.
Galatasaray last secured both the league and cup titles in the 2018/19 season, and Osimhen is determined to help them repeat that feat. “We won one trophy. On Sunday (today), we will fight for the fifth star,” the Nigerian forward said following Wednesday’s cup final win.
Currently on loan from Napoli, Osimhen was the star of the show in the Turkish Cup final, netting a brace in Galatasaray’s 3-0 demolition of Trabzonspor at Gaziantep Stadium. That performance not only ended the club’s six-year wait for the cup but also saw him surpass Mario Jardel’s long-standing record to become the highest-scoring foreign player in a single Turkish season, with 35 goals in 38 games across all competitions.
Today, Galatasaray face Kayserispor at Rams Park needing just one point to seal the 2024/25 Super Lig title. With three games left, they sit eight points clear of rivals Fenerbahçe. But Kayserispor, unbeaten in their last six under new boss Sergej Jakirovic, are expected to put up a strong fight.
Galatasaray hold the edge in recent meetings, having gone unbeaten in their last four clashes with Kayserispor—including a 5-1 victory earlier this season.
Osimhen will also have his eye on the Super Lig Golden Boot, where he currently leads with 24 goals—three ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir’s Krzysztof Piatek. His goal-scoring exploits have moved him up Galatasaray’s all-time list of foreign scorers, though Romanian icon Gheorghe Hagi still tops the chart with 72 goals.
As for his future, Osimhen remains tight-lipped. “I will wait until the end of the season before I announce what is next for me,” he said.
Reports in Italy suggest Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis has agreed to an €85 million offer from Juventus, despite earlier hesitation to sell him to a domestic rival. Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are said to be preparing a lucrative package to lure the Nigerian striker.
