Power Generation Reaches 5,713MW – TCN

by Admin

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the country’s power generation reached 5,713.60 megawatts on Tuesday, marking the highest level recorded in four years.

In a statement, TCN confirmed that the power sector achieved a new peak generation for 2025, which was successfully transmitted. This milestone surpasses the 5,543MW recorded on February 14.

“This was recorded on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 21:30 hours, with a new generation peak of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW), exceeding the previous peak of 5,543.20MW achieved on February 14, 2025, by 170.40 MW,” the statement read.

Although this new peak remains 88MW lower than the all-time high of 5,801.60MW recorded on March 1, 2021, TCN described it as a notable achievement.

Additionally, the maximum daily energy supply increased to 125,542.06 megawatt-hours, surpassing the 125,159.48MWh recorded last month.

“Furthermore, a new record for the highest daily energy ever supplied in Nigeria’s electricity industry was set yesterday, with a total of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh). This exceeded the previous record of 125,159.48MWh achieved on February 14, 2025, by 382.58 MWh,” the statement added.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had earlier pledged that power generation would reach 6,000MW by December 2024. However, this target was not met due to challenges such as vandalism, grid collapses, and inadequate infrastructure.

Currently, over 50 per cent of Nigerians still lack access to electricity.
