Rio Ferdinand believes Mo Salah is the frontrunner for this year’s Ballon d’Or, stating that no other player currently rivals him in the race.
Salah has been in exceptional form, scoring 30 goals in 39 appearances for Liverpool this season, propelling his team to the top of the Premier League and into the last 16 of the Champions League.
“Right now, I don’t think there’s anyone else on the podium with him,” Ferdinand said on TNT Sports ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the football legend noted that Salah’s chances could depend on Liverpool’s performance in Europe.
“As the Champions League progresses, someone always steps up in the knockout stages,” Ferdinand explained. “It comes down to big moments in big games. If PSG go far, Dembele could be in the mix. Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Bellingham will all be there too.”
He added that Salah’s best chance at securing the award would be leading Liverpool to Champions League glory: “If they win it, I’m sure he’ll play a big part.”
