A stampede at a popular Nigerian musician’s concert in Nairobi, Kenya, has tragically claimed the life of 20-year-old Karen Lojore.
The incident, caused by overcrowding, occurred on Saturday, December 20, at the Nyayo National Stadium. On-site paramedics performed emergency resuscitation before rushing Karen to Nairobi West Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Confirming the tragedy, show organizers Tukutane Entertainment expressed their sorrow on Instagram.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a tragic incident occurred during our December 20th concert, resulting in the loss of life. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this devastating loss. We are cooperating fully with emergency services and the appropriate authorities to understand what happened,” the statement read.
This is not the first fatal stampede at an Asake concert. In December 2022, 33-year-old Nigerian mother of two Rebecca Ikumelo lost her life at Asake’s show at Brixton O2 Academy in London after sustaining severe injuries during a stampede.
