Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has praised Victor Osimhen, placing him among the world’s top attackers alongside Ademola Lookman.
Speaking in Kigali on Friday, Troost-Ekong highlighted Osimhen’s standout performance, where he scored twice in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda.
While acknowledging Osimhen’s brilliance, Troost-Ekong stressed the importance of teamwork in securing the win.
“It’s not about individual performances. The victory against Rwanda was a result of the team’s hard work and dedication. Everyone played their part, and it’s this unity that will push us forward.”
He also noted the significance of Tolu Arokodare’s debut from the bench and commended Alhassan Yusuf, who was played out of position but still contributed effectively.
Troost-Ekong congratulated Eric Chelle on securing his first win, acknowledging the challenge of the match.
“We are working to understand the coach’s vision. We’ve only had two training sessions and several video sessions, but today’s win gives us a glimpse of what to expect under Coach Chelle.”
Reflecting on his career, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude for being part of the team for the past decade. He credited his experiences with past captains for shaping his leadership style, allowing him to create an environment where new players can thrive and express themselves.
