The United States has halted scheduling new interview dates for student visas at embassies worldwide, though previously booked interviews will proceed as planned.
The Trump administration is preparing to implement stricter rules for social media account checks for foreign students.
The directive was issued via a diplomatic cable on Tuesday, May 27, by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not schedule additional student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa appointments until further instructions are provided,” Rubio stated.
According to the cable, more detailed guidance will be issued shortly.
This move comes as the administration strengthens entry regulations for foreign students, citing national security concerns and potential campus unrest.
