Former Big Brother Naija housemate Samuel Jacob, better known as Sammie, has opened up about his battle with depression and financial struggles after leaving the reality show.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Sammie revealed that adjusting to life after BBNaija was far from easy, sharing that he went through multiple episodes of depression despite the public perception of success.
“A year after the show, I lost count of how many times I felt depressed,” he said. “I’d sit alone in my Lekki apartment and just cry. A grown man with beards, crying and asking God why. Some days I’d thank Him, other days I’d just break down.”
He admitted that financial instability deepened his struggles, saying he often received more debit alerts than credit alerts. “There was barely money coming in, but I still had a life to maintain. It messed with my head,” he confessed.
Sammie also reflected on how leaving university for the show disrupted his plans and left him uncertain about his path. “I was in Lagos, trying to live up to the ‘star boy’ tag, but there was no real income,” he said.
Comparing himself to others who seemed to be thriving, Sammie recalled moments of quiet pain. “You’d see young guys pulling up in their G-Wagons while I’d eat my indomie, wear my fine shirt, and no one would know what I was going through.”
