Eguavoen explains why Boniface hasn’t netted many goals for Nigeria.

**Super Eagles interim head coach, Austin Eguavoen, sheds light on Victor Boniface’s form, highlighting his potential despite struggles in front of goal for Nigeria.**

Following Nigeria’s narrow 1-0 win over Libya in the AFCON 2025 qualifier, Eguavoen praised Boniface’s talent but pointed out his challenges on the international stage. He said, “Boniface is a clinical striker, but he’s having a tough time in national colours. Sometimes, the chances just don’t come.”

Eguavoen also noted that decision-making has been key in Boniface’s recent performances. “I recall in Rwanda and again today, when you get half a chance, players like Romario just poke the ball in. But Boniface wants to take too long, and the defenders recover.”

Despite this, Eguavoen expressed confidence in the striker’s ability to improve, adding, “If he makes quicker decisions, I believe Boniface will score more goals. I’ll definitely talk to him about that.”

Nigeria’s victory over Libya, secured by a late goal from substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, kept the Super Eagles in control of their AFCON 2025 qualification campaign. The hard-fought match saw Nigeria dominate possession but struggle to break down a stubborn Libyan defense until Dele-Bashiru’s 86th-minute winner.

With Victor Osimhen sidelined due to injury, Boniface led the attack alongside Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon. While Nigeria had chances throughout the game, including a disallowed Lookman goal and a missed opportunity from Samuel Chukwueze, their persistence finally paid off.

The win keeps Nigeria atop Group D with seven points, boosting their hopes for AFCON 2025 qualification.
