A Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of three individuals over last week’s tragic stampede at Bashorun Islamic High School. Those remanded include Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the school principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ile Ife.
The ruling, delivered by Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi on Tuesday, followed their arraignment by the Oyo State Police Command. The court proceedings unfolded under tight security, drawing a large crowd of family members and concerned onlookers outside the courthouse.
The defendants face four-count charges stemming from the incident, with the police prosecutor citing a violation of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi ordered that all three be remanded at Agodi Correctional Centre pending further directives from the state prosecutor.
