Bill Gates, 69, has expressed that his divorce from Melinda Gates, 60, after 27 years of marriage, is the one regret he will always carry.
In an interview with the Times of London published on Saturday, Gates shared, “I’m more cheerful now,” but acknowledged that the end of his marriage remains “the mistake I most regret.”
While he mentioned that he may have experienced other failures, the Microsoft co-founder placed the divorce “at the top of the list,” adding, “There are others but none that matter. The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years.”
Despite their split, both have moved on to other relationships and maintain a friendly rapport. “Melinda and I still see each other — we have three kids and two grandchildren so there are family events. The kids are doing well. They have good values,” Bill said.
In the profile, Bill also reflected on how his marriage helped keep him “grounded” while building his trillion-dollar company.
The couple married in 1994 and share three children: Jennifer, 28, Rory, 25, and Phoebe, 22. They announced their split in May 2021, after having been separated for a year prior.
