Spanish defender Sergio Ramos has joined Liga MX club Monterrey on a free transfer.
The 38-year-old former Real Madrid stalwart, who left Sevilla at the end of the 2023-24 season, has signed a one-year deal with the Mexican side, which currently sits 10th in Liga MX.
Ramos, Spain’s most-capped player, has chosen 93 as his shirt number—a nod to the 93rd-minute goal he scored in the 2014 Champions League final when Madrid defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid.
After departing from Madrid in 2021, Ramos spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, playing alongside Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.
During his 16 seasons with Real Madrid, he played 671 games, scoring 101 goals and providing 40 assists as a defender, while helping the team secure four UEFA Champions League titles and four FIFA Club World Cup victories.
The former captain of the Spanish national team earned 180 caps and scored 23 goals, playing a key role in Spain’s World Cup win and two European Championship triumphs.
