Heavyweight contender Zhilei Zhang has thrown his support behind Daniel Dubois in a potential rematch with Anthony Joshua, predicting a victory for the Briton.
In an interview with Seconds Out, Zhang shared his confidence in Dubois’ chances of replicating his September 21 win at Wembley, where he knocked out Joshua in the fifth round.
The Chinese boxer said, “I’m not really disappointed because, as a boxing fan, I understand it from that perspective. Joshua has been at the top for years, and being at the top changes your mentality.”
Zhang also questioned Joshua’s mental state after the loss, hinting that a rematch could bring more trouble for the British-Nigerian fighter.
“This defeat—I’m not sure how it affects him mentally, but I believe a rematch would be Joshua’s worst-case scenario,” Zhang added.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has signaled his fighter’s readiness for a rematch, despite the surprising loss that disrupted his bid for a third world title.
The heavyweight division has become even more exciting, with both Joshua and Dubois linked to possible matchups against top fighters like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
For now, focus is on the potential rematch between the former two-time world champion and Dubois, a fight that could have major implications for both fighters’ careers.
While Joshua seeks redemption, Dubois sees this as a chance to solidify his position among the elite.
With growing anticipation, fans await an official announcement, as Zhang’s endorsement adds further intrigue to the unfolding rivalry between Joshua and Dubois.
