British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has announced he’s set to undergo minor surgery to fix an ongoing issue that’s kept him out of the ring.
Joshua has been inactive since suffering a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September 2024, casting doubt over his future. Speaking to DAZN on Saturday, he explained the reason for his extended absence.
“When do you want me back, people?” Joshua asked. “I’m trying to get my body right. I’ve got to actually have a little surgery on my elbow. A small surgery sometime in May—I’m just finalising the details.
“That will keep me out of the gym for six to eight weeks, and once I’ve healed, I’ll be back.”
Meanwhile, rumours of a long-awaited bout against Tyson Fury are picking up again. Fury’s former promoter Frank Warren told Mail Sport: “It’ll be about whether Tyson wants to do it and whether AJ wants to do it. AJ is still active and wants the fight—it’s the one that never happened. Everybody wants to see it.”
The heavyweight rivals have had multiple talks and exchanged jabs over the years, but a deal has never been sealed. Warren recently hinted that a “Battle of Britain” showdown could finally be on the horizon.
