EPL: Nketiah shines as Crystal Palace defeat Liverpool 2-1

by Admin

Liverpool’s unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as Eddie Nketiah struck a dramatic 97th-minute winner to hand Crystal Palace a 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park.

Palace opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Ismaïla Sarr capitalised on a loose ball from a corner to fire home from close range. The hosts nearly doubled their advantage, but Alisson denied Yeremy Pino and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Liverpool also created opportunities, with Ibrahima Konaté heading wide and Alexander Isak failing to convert after rounding Dean Henderson. After the restart, the visitors pushed harder, as Cody Gakpo came close and Florian Wirtz forced a save from Henderson.

Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Federico Chiesa bundled the ball into the net. A VAR review for a possible Mohamed Salah handball upheld the equaliser.

However, in stoppage time, Palace had the final word. Nketiah reacted quickest in the box to score the winner, sparking jubilant celebrations from the home crowd.

The victory extends Palace’s unbeaten streak to a club-record 18 matches and lifts them into second place, three points behind Liverpool, who suffered their first defeat of the season.
