Chelsea’s Chalobah earns England call-up following Guehi injury

by Admin

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is set to receive a call-up to the England squad as a replacement for Marc Guehi, who has been ruled out with a foot injury.

According to BBC Sport on Tuesday, the 26-year-old is expected to join the team ahead of England’s final World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia, although an official confirmation has yet to be made.

England have already booked their place at next summer’s tournament.

Chalobah first received an England call-up under manager Thomas Tuchel in May and later made his debut against Senegal. In September, Tuchel described him as “unlucky” to miss out on the squad for qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, as well as the October international break.

Tuchel has played a key role in Chalobah’s development, having handed him his Chelsea debut in 2021.

This season, Chalobah has featured in all but four matches for Chelsea, who currently sit third in the Premier League, have reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, and remain active in the Champions League league phase.

Guehi sustained his foot injury during Crystal Palace’s Conference League victory over AZ Alkmaar last week.

Additional changes to the England squad are also expected, with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe confirming that winger Anthony Gordon (hip) and goalkeeper Nick Pope (concussion) will both withdraw.
