Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has expressed strong confidence that the Super Eagles are ready to lift the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Morocco.
Nigeria will be chasing their fourth AFCON title, having narrowly lost the last edition 2–1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final. Gusau believes a continental triumph would help heal the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup while restoring pride for Nigerian fans at home and abroad.
“We have prepared the team with the objective of lifting the trophy. The World Cup miss still bites, but winning the Africa Cup of Nations will go a long way in easing the feelings of our fans at home and in the diaspora,” Gusau said.
He added that a victory would give the current squad a major achievement to define their era. “It will also be good for this generation of Super Eagles, as they will have at least one major triumph to their name,” he noted.
Gusau also emphasised the NFF’s commitment to providing top-notch logistical and welfare support for the team despite economic challenges. “It has not been easy, but we must continue to value the contributions of players and officials. They deserve to travel and lodge in comfort, and that is something we will always strive to provide despite the Federation’s challenges,” he said.
Concluding, Gusau reaffirmed his belief in the coaches and players to overcome recent setbacks and deliver success for Nigeria. “I have confidence in the coaches and players to turn the present gloom around and make Nigeria proud in Morocco.”
