Diddy files a legal motion to dismiss a lawsuit from a woman who alleged he sexually assaulted her in 1991.

Legal representatives for Sean “Diddy” Combs, the iconic figure in the world of Hip Hop, have taken a firm stance in response to a lawsuit brought against him by a woman, contesting allegations of sexual assault. In their recent legal maneuver, filed within the precincts of a New York court on a Friday, they assert that certain claims made by Joi Dickerson-Deal are ineligible for litigation due to their nonexistence in the legal framework at the time of the purported incident.

The crux of the motion centers on the contention that Combs is shielded from legal liability by the absence of specific laws during the period when Dickerson-Deal’s accusations date back to, notably in 1991. His legal team aims to have certain aspects of Dickerson-Deal’s claims, such as those pertaining to revenge porn and human trafficking, dismissed with prejudice, emphasizing that these statutes were not enshrined in law when the alleged events transpired.

In her previous filing, Dickerson-Deal alleged that Combs deliberately incapacitated her with drugs before subjecting her to sexual assault subsequent to a rendezvous in Harlem, during her collegiate years at the age of 19. According to her lawsuit, Combs surreptitiously recorded the assault without her consent, later disseminating the footage among his acquaintances within the music industry. Combs refuted these accusations vehemently, casting aspersions on Dickerson-Deal’s motives and suggesting an exploitation of the temporal extension of the statute of limitations under New York law.

The temporal gap between the alleged misconduct and Dickerson-Deal’s legal recourse, spanning nearly three decades, underscores a significant legal hurdle, according to Combs’ legal team. They underscore that statutes such as the New York State Revenge Porn Law, enacted in 2019, and the New York Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Law, which came into effect in 2007, were not in effect at the time of the alleged incident.

In a separate development, federal authorities conducted raids on Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami, as part of an investigation into sex trafficking. This adds a layer of complexity to the legal landscape surrounding Combs, already embroiled in legal proceedings stemming from a lawsuit filed by his former protege and romantic partner, the R&B singer Cassie. In this lawsuit, settled swiftly after its initiation in November, Cassie accused Combs of prolonged sexual abuse, including allegations of rape, and asserted that he coerced her into engaging in sexual activities with male escorts, while purportedly recording the encounters.
