Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan recorded her fastest 100m time of the season on Sunday, finishing in 11.18 seconds (1.8m/s) at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica — a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event.
Amusan, who ran in lane two and represented Racers Track Club, placed fourth in a competitive women’s final witnessed by 15,000 spectators. All top four finishers posted season-best times, with the first two meeting the 2025 World Championships qualifying mark.
She responded to the gun in 0.198s and crossed the line behind three Jamaican sprinters and an American, but showed clear progress from her earlier performances this season. Her 11.18s showing is an improvement from her previous season best of 11.28s set at the Velocity Fest in March.
This was only her second 100m flat race of the year and her third in the last 14 months, as she continues her gradual transition from 100m hurdles to sprinting.
The race was won by Jamaica’s Tina Clayton with a time of 10.98s, followed by Jacious Sears of the USA (11.04s), and Alana Garren Reid of Jamaica (11.16s). Amusan finished ahead of Tia Clayton, who clocked 11.24s.
Since moving to Jamaica in November 2024 to train under Glen Mills at Racers Track Club, Amusan’s performances on the track have steadily improved. Her recent times — 11.41s in the heats and 11.28s in the final at Velocity Fest, followed by 11.26s in Florida — show a promising trajectory. Saturday’s 11.18s now ranks as her best since her 11.10s PB in 2023.
Other highlights from the meet included Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson winning the men’s 100m in 9.88s (0.0m/s), Rasheed Broadbell edging Trey Cunningham in the men’s 110m hurdles with 13.06s to 13.08s (0.7m/s), and USA’s Alia Armstrong equalling the women’s 100m hurdles meet record at 12.54s (1.1m/s).
World champion Shericka Jackson claimed the women’s 200m title in 22.53s (1.0m/s), while Bryan Levell stole the spotlight in the men’s 200m, finishing in a remarkable 19.79s.
