World record holder in the women’s 110m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will return to the hurdles for the first time since her exit from the Paris Olympics in August 2024, as she competes in the season opener of this year’s Diamond League in Xiamen, China, on Saturday (today).
Amusan was confirmed among the participants for the Xiamen Diamond League last week.
The three-time Diamond League champion has maintained a low profile off the track and made her season debut last month in the 100m, running a season’s best of 11.28s to win the Velocity Fest 16 in Kingston, Jamaica.
During the off-season, Amusan also trained with Usain Bolt’s coach, Glen Mills, hinting at a strong comeback after a difficult end to last season. Currently ranked 13th in the world, she will face tough opposition in the 100m hurdles.
Her rivals include Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, the world indoor 60m hurdles record holder and world No.7; reigning world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica; and top Americans like Grace Stark, who holds a world-leading time of 12.51s this year, Tonea Marshall, and Nia Ali.
Former Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn holds the Xiamen meeting record at 12.45s, set last year.
The 28-year-old Nigerian will compete from lane eight in what promises to be a star-studded event.
The Xiamen Diamond League will be held at the Egret Stadium, featuring nine track and seven field events in the main program, marking the third edition of the Chinese leg of the prestigious series.
Other headline acts include Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis, Ukrainian high jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh, American hurdler Grant Holloway, and Botswana’s 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo.
