Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Anthony Joshua is poised to fight the winner of the highly anticipated Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout, on the condition that Joshua defeats Daniel Dubois in their upcoming September match.
Joshua’s previous fight in March saw him deliver a sensational knockout victory against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in the second round, a performance that reaffirmed his formidable presence in the boxing world.
In a recent discussion with The Sun, Hearn highlighted that their main goal is for Joshua to reclaim the world heavyweight title, a title that Joshua once held.
Hearn stated: “I anticipate that the victor of the December bout will face Anthony Joshua, provided he triumphs in September. We haven’t finalized the opponent yet; there are several contenders in the running. But indeed, that’s our definite plan. The foremost objective is to regain the world heavyweight title, and becoming the undisputed champion has always been our ultimate dream. I believe we’re just two fights away from achieving undisputed status, but we must win these crucial matches first.”
In a significant development last month, Usyk secured a momentous win over Fury in a historic battle, emerging victorious by a split decision.
This monumental victory crowned Usyk as the first boxer since Lennox Lewis in 1999 to unify the heavyweight division, capturing the WBC title from Fury and adding it to his existing WBA (Super), WBO, IBF, and IBO titles.
