Floods caused by heavy rainfall in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, left at least 19 people dead on Saturday, according to a provincial official.
“We currently have a provisional death toll of 19—17 in the Ngaliema district and two in Lemba,” said Kinshasa’s interior minister Thierry Kabuya, speaking to AFP. “More than 500 homes have also been flooded in the Matete area.”
He added that landslides have caused significant damage to infrastructure, and several roads have been severely affected.
