Atletico Madrid have added Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to their shortlist as they search for a new defensive midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window. With club captain Koke Resurrección nearing the twilight of his career and Thomas Lemar expected to leave, Atleti are keen to strengthen their midfield before the 2025/26 season. According to CaughtOffside, Ndidi is now among the options being considered, alongside Mallorca’s Samu Costa. The Nigerian international, who previously attracted interest from Barcelona before extending his contract with Leicester, is expected to depart the Premier League side in 2025. Atletico face competition from Real Betis and AS Monaco, with the latter reportedly having a £20m bid rejected in the winter window. Ndidi, 28, remains contracted to Leicester until 2027 and has made 208 EPL appearances, playing a crucial role in their FA Cup and Community Shield victories. He also contributed significantly to Leicester’s Championship-winning campaign in 2023/24, registering four goals and five assists in 32 matches.
