Internationally acclaimed South African actress Connie Chiume has passed away at the age of 72.
Connie Chiume, best known for her roles in “Black Panther” and “Wakanda Forever,” died on Tuesday at Garden City Hospital.
In a public statement on Tuesday, her family announced, “The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of internationally acclaimed, award-winning actress Connie Chiume.
“Connie, 72, died today, August 6, 2024, at Garden City Hospital. The family will communicate further details and ask for privacy during this difficult period.”
The late actress gained fame through her many on-screen characters in popular TV shows such as “Mohlolohadi,” “Zone 14,” “Yizo Yizo,” “Rhythm City,” “Housekeepers,” and “Grassroots,” as well as the Marvel movie “Black Panther.”
She recently starred in the hit series “Gomora” and featured in Beyoncé’s film “Black Is King.”
