Popular luxury fashion brand Burberry has parted ways with its diversity chief after announcing plans to cut 1,700 jobs worldwide.
Geoffrey Williams, who served as Burberry’s global vice president of colleague attraction and inclusion, left the company over the summer as part of sweeping cost-cutting measures.
The restructuring could see up to a fifth of the workforce reduced, with 1,700 jobs expected to go by 2027. Burberry says the move is aimed at saving at least £60 million.
The cuts follow a reported £66 million loss for the 12 months to March 29, with sales falling 12 per cent to £2.5 billion, largely due to a downturn in China.
Chief executive Joshua Schulman had earlier blamed the UK’s tourist tax and tariffs imposed by Donald Trump for the slump in performance.
