Brentford Football Club have announced the signing of former Liverpool captain and England international Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract.
The 34-year-old midfielder joins the Premier League side on a free transfer after leaving Ajax earlier this summer. His return to English football follows brief spells with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq and Dutch side Ajax.
Henderson, capped 84 times by England, brings significant experience to the Brentford squad. He spent 12 years at Liverpool, where he lifted major honours including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Community Shield. He also captained the Reds from 2015, taking over from Steven Gerrard.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews welcomed Henderson’s arrival, especially in light of the recent departures of senior players like Christian Nørgaard, Mark Flekken, and Ben Mee.
“When we became aware of Jordan’s availability, the decision was straightforward,” said Andrews. “We reviewed his recent performances and saw that he’s still in fantastic shape—both physically and mentally. He’s highly motivated and eager to keep achieving.”
Andrews also praised Henderson’s leadership: “Jordan has been one of the most influential figures in the Premier League over the past decade. He’s led teams chasing titles and European success and will raise standards within our squad.”
Henderson began his professional career at Sunderland, making his Premier League debut at 18. Before moving to Liverpool in 2011, he made 70 league appearances for the Black Cats. He went on to feature in 492 matches for Liverpool, scoring 33 goals.
