‘Osimhen will change things for Chelsea’

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could be a transformative signing for Chelsea if they manage to secure his services.

Osimhen has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for the past two years, thanks to his impressive performances for Napoli and Galatasaray. However, the Nigerian forward turned down a transfer last summer due to personal terms.

Pennant is confident that Osimhen would deliver outstanding numbers for Chelsea and potentially lead them to silverware.

“He would change things for Chelsea, without a doubt,” Pennant told TalkSport. “He knows how to find the back of the net. His numbers are flying, and they’re great.”

Comparing Osimhen to Chelsea’s current options, Pennant pointed out the team’s struggles in front of goal. “Look at Jackson—he gets plenty of chances, but his conversion rate isn’t great. He can have three or four clear-cut chances and miss them all,” he said. “Someone like Osimhen, who is prolific in front of goal, would be a huge boost for Chelsea or any team.”

The 26-year-old’s future has been a major talking point since his fallout with Napoli last season. While he remains open to a move to Manchester United, reports suggest Juventus are preparing a player-plus-cash deal to sign him this summer.

Chelsea, who had an offer rejected by Osimhen last year, are reportedly keen on making another attempt.

Currently on loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen has been in top form, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists in 20 Super Lig games. Across all competitions, he has 26 goals and five assists in 30 appearances.

On the international stage, he continues to shine for Nigeria. He recently scored twice in a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali, boosting the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
