Nigerian Government to Clear Backlog of Delayed N77,000 Allowance for Corps Members

by Admin

The Federal Government has reassured corps members that they will receive the backlog of their delayed N77,000 monthly allowance.

On September 25, 2024, the government announced an increase in corps members’ monthly stipends from N33,000 to N77,000. However, despite repeated assurances, the implementation has been delayed.

Last week, after a corps member’s video went viral highlighting the struggles of surviving on N33,000 per month, the newly appointed NYSC Director General, Olakunle Nafiu, stated that the new allowance would take effect in March 2025.

Reaffirming the commitment to corps members, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, confirmed that those currently serving, as well as those in the scheme when the increment was announced, would receive backdated payments. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, March 24, Olawande assured that the government remains committed to settling the backlog.

“You heard the new DG say that corps members will get it. They even asked if those leaving the scheme now will receive the backlog, and he confirmed that their details are on record,” Olawande said.

While he assured that the payments would be made, he cautioned that it might take some time. “We will work on it and ensure it is paid. It may not be immediate, but it will happen,” he added.
