Fishermen catch and butcher a manatee in a Bayelsa community.

Fishermen have caught a manatee in the Odi community of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area in Bayelsa State.

According to Niger Delta Insider, the fully aquatic mammal was caught on the afternoon of Friday, July 19, 2024.

Manatees, sometimes known as sea cows, are classified as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). They face threats from habitat loss, boat collisions, and pollution.
