Benin Republic coach Gernot Rohr has backed Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman to win the CAF African Player of the Year Award.
On Thursday, Lookman was named among the final nominees for the award following an impressive year for both club and country.
The 27-year-old scored three goals and provided one assist in seven matches for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. He also made history by scoring a hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final.
This season, Lookman has contributed 11 goals and five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions for his club.
Speaking with Foot Africa, Gernot Rohr, who previously coached the Super Eagles, praised Lookman’s growth and performance, describing him as a complete player.
“He has made significant progress. His challenging early years in England and Germany are now behind him. He has bounced back and is shining,” Rohr told Foot Africa.
“I followed him closely with the Super Eagles a few years ago. He’s transitioned from the shadows to the spotlight. Today, he’s a complete player, excelling both as a scorer and a provider.”
