Boxing legend Mike Tyson is eyeing a surprising showdown with Anthony Joshua. The former undisputed heavyweight champion is set to return to the ring in November for a controversial crossover match against Jake Paul.
Tyson, who has been training rigorously, will be stepping into the ring for the first time since his exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020. At 57, the International Boxing Hall of Famer has ambitious plans to face Joshua in a charity bout.
When asked about the possibility of fighting Joshua for charity, Tyson told TMZ, “I’m very interested. If doing that means we can have a bigger charity exponent, well so be it, I’m down to do that, too. I would love to (fight Joshua). That would be mind-blowing.”
However, before Tyson can consider a charity bout with Joshua, he must first face YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul, who is 31 years his junior. Former two-time unified heavyweight champion Joshua has expressed concerns for Tyson’s health, stating on The Jonathan Ross Show, “He’s older now. I pray that he comes out healthy. I think Jake Paul because of youth – that’s the only thing.”
The announcement of Tyson vs Paul has caused outrage in the boxing community, with many fans expressing their discontent. Surprisingly, Joshua supports Paul’s entertainment-driven fights, saying, “I personally think it’s really good. I think the boxing hardcores, they don’t like it because they think, ‘Why are they disrespecting our sport?’ But I think that person brings all these people into boxing which benefits everyone else. Everyone viewing helps.”
