Kenya and Uganda have agreed to merge their cultures as they form a tourism pact.

A BusinessDaily report highlighted Kenya and Uganda’s collaboration to enhance tourism revenue. Both nations plan to blend elements of their cultures like dance, cuisine, and activities to attract more tourists. This initiative stemmed from the Ugandan consulate’s 4-day visit to Mombasa, focusing on the Uganda Festival—a cultural and culinary event held in Kwal, Kilifi, and Mombasa—aimed at drawing both local and global visitors.

Paul Mukumbya, the Consulate General of the Republic of Uganda, emphasized the festival’s goal to showcase Uganda’s unique products to corporate Kenyans and tourists from the region and beyond, especially those visiting the Kenyan coast. He noted that in 2023, 500,000 Kenyans visited Uganda, while 200,000 Ugandans traveled to Kenya for business or leisure. Mukumbya highlighted Kenya as Uganda’s primary source market for visitors and expressed the consulate’s determination to encourage more Kenyan and international visitors to explore Uganda’s offerings.
