Libya deports 80 Nigerians for overstaying illegally

by Admin

At least 80 Nigerians have been deported from Libya after being found in various detention centres and living in the country without proper documentation.

The repatriation took place on Wednesday through Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli and was coordinated by Libya’s Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in partnership with the Nigerian Consulate.

Migrant Rescue Watch, an organisation that monitors migrant rights in Libya, confirmed the operation on X, explaining that the deportation followed orders from the Libyan Judicial Police.

“On orders from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Judicial Police transferred a group of undocumented Nigerian migrant women to DCIM custody in Tripoli. All were served with judicial deportation orders and were awaiting deportation,” the organisation stated.

It further added, “#Libya 11.11.25 – DCIM, with support from the Nigerian consulate, repatriated 80 Nigerian migrants via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.”
