A Libyan driver has been arrested for attempting to smuggle seven undocumented Nigerian migrants from Sabha to Benghazi.

The Brega police intercepted the vehicle and detained both the driver and the migrants on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

According to a post by Migrant Rescue Watch, the Nigerian nationals, which included seven women and one man, were found with forged Libyan documents.

“Police in Brega seized a vehicle during a road control and arrested a Libyan driver for attempting to smuggle undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality (seven women and one man), who were in possession of forged Libyan documents,” MRW stated.

“During police interrogation, the driver confessed to transporting the migrants for financial gain (500 LYD, approximately 104 USD, per person) from Sabha to Benghazi.

“All individuals remain in police custody, pending referral to public prosecution.”
