Liverpool FC has released its Premier League retained list post the culmination of the 2023-24 season, confirming the departure of several senior and Academy players.
As previously announced, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are set to bid farewell to the Reds as their contracts expire this summer, after eight and four years respectively with the club, as per a statement sourced from the club website on Wednesday.
The club praised Matip and Thiago for their significant contributions to the team’s success over the years.
“Centre-back Matip has amassed over 200 appearances during his tenure on Merseyside, scoring 11 goals and clinching seven honors, including Champions League and Premier League titles.
“Thiago, on the other hand, featured in 98 matches since his arrival from Bayern Munich in 2020, with the midfielder securing the Emirates FA Cup and FA Community Shield during his tenure,” the statement further elaborated.
Academy graduate Adam Lewis, who spent the past two seasons on loan with Newport County, will also bid adieu following the end of his contract.
“The local talent progressed through the Reds’ youth ranks, making his senior debut by playing the full game in the FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield in February 2020,” the statement highlighted.
Melkamu Frauendorf is another departure this summer, having been a regular figure for the U18s and U21s and featuring twice at senior level during his four-year stint with Liverpool.
“Frauendorf made his debut under Jürgen Klopp as a substitute against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup in January 2022, later starting the Carabao Cup clash with Derby County at Anfield,” the statement reminisced.
Mateusz Musialowski will also embark on a new journey, making his first senior Liverpool appearance as a substitute against Sparta Prague in March.
The Poland youth international, who joined the club in the summer of 2020, was a consistent member of the U18s and U21s squads during his four years at Liverpool.
At the Academy level, Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington are all set to depart the Reds following the expiration of their contracts.
Furthermore, contract offers have been extended to senior goalkeeper Adrian – who has made 26 appearances since joining the club in August 2019 – as well as Academy goalkeepers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman.
Liverpool FC expressed gratitude to Joel, Thiago, Adam, Melkamu, Mateusz, Nathan, Francis, Luke, Niall, and Cody for their contributions and wished them the very best for their future endeavors.
