Kylian Mbappé has equalled Thierry Henry’s tally as France’s joint second-highest goalscorer after netting in Les Bleus’ 2-0 win over Ukraine in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.
The 26-year-old struck in the 82nd minute, bringing his total to 51 international goals—matching Arsenal legend Henry. He now sits just behind Olivier Giroud, France’s all-time top scorer with 57 goals.
Michael Olise had earlier opened the scoring in the 10th minute as France tightened their grip on top spot in Group C, while Ukraine struggled to threaten.
Since making his debut in 2017, Mbappé has risen to become the face of French football. He burst onto the world stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, scoring four goals—including one in the final against Croatia—as France claimed their second world title. At Qatar 2022, he cemented his superstar status by finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals, including a memorable hat-trick in the final against Argentina.
With Henry’s record now matched, Mbappé has the chance to claim outright second place on France’s all-time scoring list when Didier Deschamps’ side face Georgia in their next qualifier on Tuesday.
