The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has recently revealed a shortlist comprising three former Nigeria internationals: Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amuneke, and Michael Nsien. These esteemed candidates are being considered for the pivotal role of assistant coach for the Super Eagles.
While Amuneke, Amokachi, and Nsien initially applied for the head coach position, the NFF is now engaged in negotiations with them to determine the most suitable candidate to assist Finidi George, who was appointed as the Super Eagles head coach on Monday.
According to a report by Complete Sports, the NFF is diligently working on assembling a “formidable backroom staff for Finidi.” This suggests a concerted effort to ensure the coaching team is well-equipped for the challenges ahead.
Both Amokachi and Amuneke boast prior experience as assistant coaches in the Super Eagles setup. Amokachi, the former Everton striker, served as an assistant to late coaches Shaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi, adding a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position. Meanwhile, Amuneke has also contributed to the national team’s coaching staff, previously working as an assistant coach to Samson Siasia and Augustine Eguavoen.
As for Michael Nsien, the former Olympic Eagles defender currently holds the position of coach for the United States of America U-19 team. His experience and insights from coaching at the international level could prove invaluable to the Super Eagles’ coaching setup.
With such accomplished candidates under consideration, the NFF is undoubtedly striving to secure a coaching team that will bring out the best in the Super Eagles and lead them to success on the global stage.
