Only child, aged 10, trapped and crushed to death by lift at school

by Admin

A boy who is the only child of his parents has been killed inside a lift during a horrific accident at his special needs school.
Sanad Shahriar, 10, was crushed by a lift at St Lucy’s school in Wahroonga in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, November 1.
Emergency services received reports about a trapped child but were unable to save him and he died at the scene.
He was the only child of Hasan Shahriar, an engineering manager, and Dr Yasmin Haque, a GP, and both are said to be very vulnerable at the moment.

A post from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) alumni Facebook group appeared to confirm the tragic news.
“With extremely heavy heart I am announcing the only son of our BUETian brother Hasan Shahriar (EEE’96) has passed away in an incident in the school yesterday,” the post read.
“Please pray for the sweet little Sanad and Hasan Shahriar and Dr Yasmin.”
SafeWork NSW and NSW Police are investigating the incident, and trying to determine whether the lift in the 1970s building was faulty.
A SafeWork NSW spokeswoman said it “has been notified of a fatal incident at a school in Wahroonga”.
“SafeWork’s investigation is ongoing and no further comment can be made at this time.”
The school was put into lockdown with over 200 students told to sit tight as the incident unfolded. As the investigation continues, the facility has remained shut.
“Rest in peace sweet boy,” read one floral tribute left to the boy in the school’s front office.
A card from a nearby special needs school added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. We extend our sympathy and hold you in our hearts.”
