Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has honoured his late wife, Stella Obasanjo, by sharing how she tirelessly worked to secure his release from prison.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 250-bed Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin, Edo State, Obasanjo expressed his deep gratitude, saying, “My late wife went everywhere to ensure that I came out of prison alive. She travelled to the Vatican City, France, and other parts of the world.”
Reflecting on her impact, Obasanjo added, “No amount of honour given to her would be too much. We were planning her 68th birthday before she passed away. It was very painful for me and our family. So, I deeply appreciate this gesture in her memory.”
He also took a moment to praise Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, saying, “With this hospital, you’re ensuring first-class treatment for any ailment. The governor started well and is finishing well, and I thank the people of Edo State and the government for this honour to Stella.”
