Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 Lagos governorship election, has declared his intention to run again in 2027.
During an interview on Gold Room, hosted by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, Rhodes-Vivour reaffirmed his commitment to being an active opposition voice and tackling the challenges faced by Lagos residents.
“By God’s grace, I will run for governor again in 2027. We’ve gained momentum, learned from past mistakes, and identified areas to improve,” he stated.
He criticised the tendency of opposition parties to fade away after elections, vowing to remain visible and proactive. “The biggest flaw in Lagos politics is the silence of the opposition post-election. That won’t happen this time,” he said.
Rhodes-Vivour also outlined ongoing projects, such as health outreaches and a micro health insurance plan offering free treatment up to ₦6,000 for Lagosians. Additionally, he pledged to hold the current administration accountable, calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to prioritise transparency and effective use of public funds.
“With the current hardships faced by Nigerians and Lagosians, accountability and transparency are non-negotiable. Public funds must be used efficiently,” he stated.
He emphasised that a strong opposition benefits the public by ensuring the government remains accountable. “When the opposition keeps the government in check, it’s the people who ultimately win,” he concluded.
