Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen made a notable impact in Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over Antalyaspor on Saturday.
After recovering from injury, Osimhen was substituted for Yunus Akgün in the 78th minute to loud applause from the fans. Galatasaray had already taken control of the match, with Mauro Icardi securing a brace earlier on.
Osimhen, who had been sidelined after picking up an injury in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa, where he scored twice in eight minutes, marked his return in style.
During the international break, Galatasaray had released a video showing Osimhen in solo training, raising hopes for his comeback. A post from the club’s official X (formerly Twitter) account read: “Victor Osimhen worked separately from the team within the scope of a special programme prepared for him.”
In the match against Antalyaspor, Osimhen proved his readiness by scoring a stunning overhead kick in the 92nd minute from a Hakim Ziyech free kick, sealing Galatasaray’s victory.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk expressed his delight at the striker’s return. Osimhen’s goal reinforced his importance to the team and excited the supporters.
This victory took Galatasaray to 25 points from nine games, placing them at the top of the league table. The club will next face Istanbul rivals Besiktas in their league match on Monday, October 28th, but first will host IF Elfsborg in the Europa League on Wednesday.
