Osimhen Races Against Time for Istanbul Derby
Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen is in contention to feature in the highly anticipated Istanbul derby against Besiktas on Saturday, despite concerns over a knock he picked up during the international break.
Osimhen, who starred for Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, scored three goals across both games. However, he was substituted five minutes before the end of the match against Zimbabwe in Uyo after sustaining an injury.
The in-form striker has been instrumental to Galatasaray’s impressive campaign this season, and manager Okan Buruk is hopeful he will be fit for the derby.
According to Haber Sariki Mizi, Galatasaray insider Yakup Çınar confirmed that Osimhen and Davinson Sanchez are expected to be available for selection, pending the medical team’s final decision.
“I have received information that Osimhen and Davinson Sanchez are fit to play in the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby. However, the final decision will be made by the medical board. Yunus Akgün is also ready to play,” Çınar stated.
Buruk and the Galatasaray faithful will be eager to have Osimhen back at full strength as they look to secure victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The 26-year-old, on loan from Napoli, has been a key figure in Galatasaray’s push for a 25th league title, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists in 22 league games. The Turkish giants currently sit atop the Süper Lig table, 27 points ahead of fourth-placed Besiktas.
