Nigeria claimed a crucial 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their CAF World Cup qualification Group C clash on Friday, with Victor Osimhen netting both goals.
Osimhen struck early in the 11th minute, capitalising on a precise cross from Ademola Lookman to give the Super Eagles the lead. He then doubled Nigeria’s advantage in first-half stoppage time (45+3’), sealing the win.
The match was intense, with Rwanda’s D. Bizimana receiving a yellow card in the 46th minute, followed by Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi in the 49th minute. Despite holding 45% possession, Rwanda struggled to break Nigeria’s solid defence, managing just two shots on target. Meanwhile, Nigeria dominated offensively with three shots on target and eight corner kicks.
The victory moves Nigeria to fourth place in Group C, with six points from five matches, keeping their qualification hopes alive. South Africa leads the group with 10 points, followed by Benin (8 points) and Rwanda (7 points).
Nigeria will now shift focus to their upcoming fixtures as they push to climb higher in the standings and secure a spot in the next stage of the qualifiers.
