Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe secured spots in the men’s 100m semifinals at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday, marking their debut at the Olympics.
Ajayi won Heat 5 with a time of 10.02s, surpassing Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who finished second with 10.05s. Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu took third with a time of 10.06s.
Ashe finished fourth in Heat 4 behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, and Thailand’s Thurpool Bonboon. Despite this, Ashe advanced to the semifinals by securing the last non-automatic qualifying spot.
In swimming, Adaku Nwandu placed second in Heat 6 of the women’s 50m Freestyle, trailing behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh. The 16-year-old did not advance to the final.
