Newly-appointed FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli has expressed his determination to return the club to its former glory and end their title drought since 2022.
Speaking on Monday, the 36-year-old Italian said his “desire is to restore Porto to the place they belong.” Farioli takes over from Martin Anselmi after resigning from Ajax in May, where he saw a nine-point lead slip away in the final five games, ultimately finishing second in the Dutch league.
Porto endured a disappointing campaign last season, finishing third—11 points behind champions Sporting Lisbon—and winning just 10 of 21 matches under Anselmi.
Club president Andre Villas-Boas praised Farioli as “a young coach, but extremely ambitious,” adding that he has “exploded onto the European football scene.”
