Premier League says the 2026–27 EPL schedule has been adjusted to safeguard players.

by Admin

The Premier League has announced that the 2026–27 campaign will begin on Saturday, 22 August, and end on Sunday, 30 May 2027.

These dates make it one of the latest season start and finish windows in league history, behind only the disrupted 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons affected by COVID-19.

As reported by BBC Sport on Monday, the league explained that the adjustments were introduced to ease the “congested global football calendar” and to prioritise “player welfare.”

The revised timetable provides an 89-day break between the end of the 2025–26 season— which started on 15 August— and the beginning of the next, while also ensuring a 33-day buffer between the World Cup final and the resumption of league fixtures.

“Starting next season, beginning one week later will create an 89-day gap from the end of the current campaign and allow for 33 days from the World Cup final,” the Premier League stated.

The league also noted that the schedule will aim to avoid “clashes with UEFA club competition dates wherever possible,” and confirmed that “over the Christmas and New Year period, no two match rounds will be scheduled within 60 hours.”

Additionally, there will be no international break in October next season, while the September window will be extended to allow national teams to play four games instead of two.
