On Thursday night, February 27, US President Donald Trump stated that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine were making significant progress, praising Russia’s role in the negotiations.
Trump made the remarks during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House. Starmer urged the US to provide security support for any European forces involved in a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine once a deal is reached—a process Trump has been pushing since taking office last month.
Speaking alongside Starmer in the Oval Office, Trump expressed confidence that a peace agreement with Russia would hold and dismissed concerns about Putin launching another invasion of Ukraine. However, he declined to reveal details of any peacekeeping plans until a deal is finalised.
“I think Russia has been acting very well. … I think we’re very well advanced on the deal, but we have not made a deal yet,” Trump said.
