President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment in a statement on Monday. This comes just 33 days after Tinubu directed the Federal Government to take over Nok University, Kachia, and convert it into a federal institution, now renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
The President also appointed key officers for the university, including Prof. Qurix Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as Librarian.
Additionally, Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East) were appointed as members of the university’s Governing Council.
The statement highlighted that the appointees were selected for their expertise, leadership experience, and commitment to advancing education in Nigeria. Tinubu urged them to provide visionary leadership and establish a strong foundation for the university, which is set to welcome its first students in September 2025.
