President-elect Donald Trump has announced that tech entrepreneur Elon Musk will join the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aiming to reshape federal operations.
Musk, accompanied by Vivek Ramaswamy, will spearhead efforts to streamline government functions and reduce bureaucratic excess. The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, and shared via Musk’s X platform early Wednesday.
Trump, 78, who won the 2024 presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris, highlighted that Musk and Ramaswamy’s appointments are central to his administration’s mission to “cut through government red tape, reduce wasteful spending, and modernize federal agencies.” The DOGE department, in collaboration with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget, is set to “drive unprecedented reforms and foster a government culture that is innovative and accountable.”
“I am thrilled to announce that Elon Musk, alongside American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency,” Trump stated. “Together, they will dismantle bureaucracy, eliminate excessive regulations, and slash wasteful spending — vital to the ‘Save America’ movement. This will be a transformative project, akin to a modern-day ‘Manhattan Project,’ aiming to revolutionize our approach to governance.”
Trump further emphasized that this reform initiative will culminate by July 4, 2026, in celebration of the nation’s 250th Independence anniversary, aiming for a “leaner, more effective government.” He expressed confidence that the duo would drive out inefficiencies from the $6.5 trillion government budget and make the federal government more accountable to “We the People.”
Musk, CEO of Tesla, Starlink, and social media platform X, had been vocal in his support for Trump’s campaign, contributing $75 million to pro-Trump efforts.
Other key appointments to Trump’s cabinet include:
– Lee Zeldin as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator
– Mike Waltz as National Security Advisor
– Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff
– Tom Homan as Border Czar
– Elise Stefanik as Ambassador to the United Nations
– Stephen Miller as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy
